Ingredients
Whole black lentils (sabut urad dal or black gram)- 1 cup
Medium onion – 1 (chopped)
Medium tomatoes pureed - 2
Medium garlic cloves - 2 to 3 (crushed)
Ginger - 1 inch (crushed)
Green chilli – 1 (finely chopped)
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Red chili powder - ½ tsp
Garam Masala Powder - ¼ tsp
Oil/Ghee/butter- 1 tsp
Water - 3 to 3.5 cups
Salt - as required.
Coriander leaves - for garnishing
Steps
- Rinse the sabut urad dal in water and soak it in water for 30 to 40 minutes. You can also soak for 4 to 5 hours or overnight, depending on the quality of dal.
- If the lentils are old or near expiry date, then soak overnight. Later drain the water and set aside the sabut urad dal in a bowl.
- Connect the power cord to ROBOCOOK and switch ‘ON’ button. Press the Saute' Button in front dashboard and wait for 30 secs for the inner cooking pot to get heated up.
- Add ghee to the inner cooking pot and let it melt a bit. Add cumin seeds, when they sizzle add chopped onions. Sauté the onions till they turn to light brown in colour.
- Now add pureed tomatoes and crushed ginger-garlic or ginger-garlic paste and mix well.
- Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and finely chopped green chilies. Sauté the masala till oil gets separated.
- Next add the sabut urad dal, water, salt to the pot and mix well. Press cancel to stop saute.
- Place the closing lid over the top, Turn and place the Pointer in ‘CLOSE’ Position. Ensure the lid is firmly closed and Pressure release button should be on ‘DOWN’ Position.
- Press the ‘Dal/channa’ pre-set menu button in the ROBOCOOK and select Quick. PIC TECHNOLOGY pre-sets temperature/pressure/timer for pre-cooking
- After Pre-Cooking is done the cooking countdown will appear and starts down from 20 mins. Once the countdown comes down and cooking is completed it stops with 3 Beep sound and automatically switches to KEEP WARM mode. Press ‘Cancel’ if not required.
- Wait for 10 mins to get Natural Pressure Release (OR) it can be released manually by pulling ‘UP’ the pressure release button. Ensure the pressure is released completely on both the methods.
- Now TWIST and Open the cooker. Switch to Keep warm or Off mode. Give it a good stir and garnish with coriander leaves.
- Serve maa ki dal hot with naan, kulcha, rotis or steamed rice.
